Artistic Director & Founder

John is a Portland native and long-time choral musician. John is currently the Choir Director at Grant High School in Portland Oregon. He studied music education at Knox College, Galesburg Il., under the direction of Dr. Laura Lane, and also sang for eight seasons with the Portland Symphonic Choir. John has also studied under Dr. Rodney Eichenberger and has lead his chamber choir, the Grant Royal Blues, on multiple local and international tours.

Board President

Eric is a life-long singer and music enthusiast. While earning a B.A. in German, he sang with The Wartburg Choir and played tenor saxophone with the Knightliters Jazz Band. He followed this with a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.  Upon graduating, he started at Bora Architects and, after filling many roles, continues there as the Technology Manager. A fan of the Lutheran Choral tradition, Eric still sings with church choirs, lives with his spouse, Dawn, and has two grown daughters.

Secretary

Helen is a BCBA and Case Supervisor for an Autism clinic in Beaverton. She graduated from the University of Oregon with dual degrees in Music and Psychology, and has since obtained masters degrees in Special Education and Applied Behavior Analysis. She has sung with In Medio since it’s inaugural cycle in 2019 and is thrilled to be back. Helen also sang with the award-winning UO Chamber Choir under the direction of Dr. Sharon Paul, as well as the Oregon Bach Festival Chorus and Eugene Symphony Chorus. In her spare time she enjoys baking, yoga, and waffles.

Treasurer

Jack is a CPA in Portland—he does not do taxes. He attended the University of Oregon for his undergraduate and master’s degrees. He sang in the award winning UO Chamber Choir for four years, as well the a capella group On The Rocks and the renaissance chamber ensemble Vox Resonat. He is excited to sing in Portland with such a talented group. In his spare time he likes to golf, cook, shop for “tall people pants” and use his “tall card” to get the best seats on airplanes.

Board Member

Jen Milius is a Portland-based soprano with an "intimate style and flawless technique" (Oregon Artswatch), known for her expressive, agile, and clear voice—uniquely suited for interpreting both early and contemporary music.

She has performed with ensembles including Cappella Romana, the Byrd Ensemble, Radiance, the Portland Symphonic Choir, the Oregon Symphony, and Big Mouth Society. Jen is a founding member of In Medio, Evenstar Ensemble, and Nexus Vocal Ensemble, and has sung with the Byrd International Singers for the past four summers, performing alongside members of the Byrd Ensemble and the Tallis Scholars. She currently studies with Dr. Lisa Neher.

By day Jen is a designer, running her own studio focused on environmental and print design, primarily for museums and cultural organizations.

Board Member

Connor sang in the chamber and concert choirs at George Fox University, but didn't fully grasp how important choral music would be to him until joining In Medio in 2019. Getting to sing with such a passionate and skilled group of musicians is one of the foremost joys of his adult life, and he firmly believes that everyone should try choir at least once. 

By day, Connor works in nonprofit development, and is thankful for the opportunity to apply some of his professional skills to his service on In Medio's Board of Directors. 

Sara Quinn Rivara has performed with the Portland Symphonic Choir, Resonance Ensemble, Aspire Ensemble, Kalamazoo Symphony, Kalamazoo Bach Festival Chorus, and Opera Grand Rapids. She is the President and Producer of the Light Opera of Portland, and has sung with In Medio since its founding.
